A few months ago I was asked by a friend to write an article about the cheiroballistra to a small archaeological publication. Naturally I said yes, even though at that point I was not sure how much power I would manage to squeeze out of the thing before the deadline, and writing about a peashooter would have been humiliating. Fortunately I managed to produce a reasonable amount power just before the final editing of the publication. Most importantly the previous tests showed that the cheiroballistra is capable of generating Firefly level performance, once all the components are strong enough to take the strain.

The article is called "The Cheiroballistra - Producing a viable weapon based on historical manuscripts and archaeological finds" and it is already available (odt, pdf) on my cheiroballistra GitHub repository. Once I get a digital version of the printed article I will upload it to academia.edu and GitHub for everyone's enjoyment. The article is a very, very brief introduction to the weapon, but it probably gives a better overview of the topic than anything on this Wiki. I'm also very content with the outline drawing I created:

Outline drawing of the cheiroballistra

Note that the articles linked to above do not contain the drawing, I sent the drawings to print separately in various formats.

Drawing on top of a photograph using a CAD program (LibreCAD) is a really nice technique and produces great results, but man is it slow with this level of details: it probably took me a full working day to finish this drawing. What is worse, I will need to redo this picture when the cheiroballistra is really ready :).

UPDATE: The print version of the article is now available on Academia.edu. You should be able to download it from this link after having logged in. If that does not work or you don't feel like creating yet another user account, the same file is available on GitHub.

EDIT: It seems that several sources were cited in the article, but were left out of references list. This has been fixed in the GitHub non-print version of the article. And addendum has also been added to print version of the PDF. The paper version will probably get similar addendum also. What a mess. Note to self: take extra care to weed out mistakes like this the next time.
